Wood Products Considerations and Care Instructions
Wood is a natural material that shrinks and expands when reacting to natural elements like temperature and humidity. To best care for your wood product, you should try to avoid exposing the product to extreme temperature and humidity differences.
Excessive moisture can cause some warping in the wood stock, therefore we recommend to keep humidity between 50% - 70%. Higher or lower humidity levels can cause some warping in the wood. With 2-ply products, warping, contraction or expansion of the wood due to temperature can also result in the two plies curling apart near the edges in some rare cases.
To properly care for your wood products, please store them in a paper carton (or wrap them in paper) to prevent moisture from getting in.
If you do see warping in your wood product, you can spread it out in an area with normal room temperature (around 25 degrees celsius) and within the recommended humidity levels. Along with applying pressure (you can try placing something flat and heavy on top, like a textbook) the warping can be corrected.
Optimizing for Natural Wood Stocks
Our Wood Product Line has a natural wood grain texture that is a little bit rougher than normal
paper. Because of this, there are a few considerations for printing on wood that you should keep
in mind to get the best results.
- Natural wood cards must be printed as a 2-ply with either a wood or paper backing
- The textured wood grain finish will show through the printed design
- The color of the wood can cause color shifting on the design. Darker wood stocks, such as Cherry and Walnut, will have more pronounced color shift
- Minimalist designs with less ink coverage work best
- Bold designs with high contrast will produce the best results
- Available in 3 shades: Natural Birch, Natural Cherry, and Natural Walnut
Can I see samples of the Wood cards?
Samples of the Wood are available by ordering a Specialty Sample Pack.
Where does the wood come from? How is it sourced?
Virgin wood is used in the production of our wood stocks. The wood comes from sustainable sources.
The process of producing the wood stock does not use any water (as used in the pulping process for paper) or chemicals (such as bleach and colour for paper).

Select File Format:
- Bleed Area
- Trim Area
- Safe Area
Bleed Area refers to images that extend to the very edges of a design. To prevent an unwanted white border from showing at the edge of your design, or for the design to appear slightly off-center, be sure to extend any background colors or design elements all the way to the edge of bleed (.125” past the trim on all four sides).
Trim Area refers to the amount of the image that will appear on your finished product. These areas will also be marked with ‘cut lines’ on your proof and are where we aim to cut your card.
Safety Area in most cases refers to 1/8 of an inch inside of the Trim Area. For thicker papers 20pt and up or wooden papers the Safety Area increases ¼ of an inch inside the Trim Area. we strongly recommend you keep important aspects of your design such as text and logos well inside of the Safety Area, otherwise, they may be cut off.
